Each of the five units utilizes texts from the following genres: informational, poetry, literary, and drama. The sixth week of every unit focuses on pairing selections. The Joy of Reading series also includes the unit, Introduction to Text Structures. In it, you will find videos, PowerPoints and activities for the first 10 days of school that focus on using the KAT Framework to reading comprehension. There is also a two-week unit, entitled Holidays and Observances, featuring texts for relevant holidays or recognitions.
